Raw Carrots? A Healthy Choice for Non-Rabbits too!

Rabbits love carrots and the most famous rabbit, Bugs Bunny, sure knows the value of chomping on raw carrots. These power packed orange dynamite sticks help him foil Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam and a host of other mortal enemies. Makes you wonder what would happen if he was always eating a donut?

So what are in these carrots that make Bugs so indestructible?

Antioxidants
These little powerhouses find and destroy free-radicals in our body that damage and destroy cells. Beta-carotene, the same anti-oxidant chemical that makes the carrots orange can also help slow down age-related muscular degradation.

Vitamin A
This is the vitamin that gives carrots the reputation of giving us excellent vision. Although eating carrots won't make your vision any better, vitamin A is essential in keeping your vision normal. It also helps with cell growth, with bone growth and with keeping your pearly whites healthy.

The B Vitamins
These are Thiamin and B6. One gets on your nerves and the other gets in your blood. Thiamin is essential for keeping your nervous system functioning. It also works great for breaking down carbs, fats and proteins. Vitamin B6 helps in the manufacturing of red blood cells, it also pumps up your immune system.

Vitamin C
You just can't get enough of C. It helps us heal cuts and wounds. It helps us resist infection, and may even help us prevent cancer.

Vitamin K
Vitamin K helps with blood-clotting and new bone growth.

Dietary Fibre
It may help lower blood cholesterol and reduce the risks associated with diabetes by helping control blood sugar levels. It also helps regulate the digestive system and keep it in good working order.

Folate
The special powers of folate: include making blood cells, building muscles, healing wounds and helping the brain and nervous system functioning properly. It also helps keep our cardiovascular system in tip-top shape which is important when you are the "Wascally Wabbit" someone is out to get.

Potassium
Carrots are a terrific source of potassium. Potassium is an essential mineral that helps the body maintain and regulate its fluid levels. It is essential for many metabolic processes and you need to have potassium to ensure that you have the proper transmission of nerve impulses, proper muscle function, and that you maintain normal blood pressure.

Minerals
Carrots contain the trace minerals of Manganese and Magnesium, both are essential for healing wounds, formation and maintenance of bones and connective tissue.

Who thought a little carrot could do so much good? You would be awful silly not to eat your carrots. So include carrots in your balanced diet and chances are you will be spending a lot more time saying "what's up doc?" and a whole lot less time saying "what's wrong doc?".
